Lead with purpose

Lead a Sharpening Session

Group Session Leaders help make room for focused, peer-led conversations among veterans. This is not a clinical, crisis-care, or command role.

Hold the room

Set a respectful tone, protect time, and keep the conversation centered on the session topic.

Lead through facilitation

Facilitate peer participation without directing lives, providing therapy, or acting as a clinician.

Honor shared service

Leave rank at the door and create space where every veteran can contribute with dignity.

WHAT A GSL IS NOT

A Group Session Leader is a trusted peer and facilitator, not a clinician or authority figure. GSLs do not diagnose, fix, preach, recruit, self-promote, or control participants. Rank remains outside the room, and each session is limited to 60 minutes.

A deliberate authorization pathway

Interest does not guarantee selection. Prospective leaders are reviewed, authorized, and assigned only when the organization determines there is a fit.

The pathway may include membership, participation, Room Standard review, orientation, rehearsal, safety training, approval, and a session-specific assignment. Expressing interest does not guarantee selection, authorization, or assignment.
